My First Ever Blog: How GearReview HQ came to be

Sharing is caring!

This is my first ever blog post. I am writing this to explain the purpose of this blog and why it exists. First of all, I have a passion for music production. I own my own studio (pictured in the multitude of images above) and have been in the music industry for almost 20 years now. Sadly, (or maybe happily?) it is not a main provider of income.

Why Write a Studio Gear Review Blog?

  1. I recently read a book that promised that one could easily make $2,000 a month within 90 days if they followed the formula they outlined within its chapters. Yes, you read that right, I am writing this blog to make some additional income, but before you burn me at the cross for this heresy please give me an opportunity to defend myself. First of all, Im married. Secondly, I have a 15 month old Son, and another that is just a few months away from arriving in this world. So, as you can see I am in desperate need of additional income.
  2. I’ve got a bad case of GAS (Thats “Gear Acquisition Syndrome” for the un initiated). Ive always loved recording gear, Microphones, outboard gear, musical instruments etc. I really like to nerd out on these things and maybe theres a chance if I put a lot of work and energy into this blog I will be able to have some of this stuff show up to my doorstep unannounced- (I’m looking at YOU vintageking.com!)
  3. Writing, recording, producing and mixing music is probably my biggest passion. There is nothing like creating a song from nothing and putting it out to the world. The problem is, I don’t have a ton of time to do it these days. I work as a private charter pilot, and while I actually kinda really like my main job, it has me spending a lot of time on the road away from my family and my studio. I would like to get away from trading time for money, create sources of income that I can control and from locations of my choice. My goal is to be able to retire in the next 5-10 years, and just focus on things that I enjoy doing with my family.

Im really not sure what this is going to all turn into. It’s kind of a big experiment, but Ive wanted to do a blog for a while now. I also have no idea what I’m doing, this is all new to me, so like a baby giraffe falling ten feet out of the mother for the first time, stumbling around in the grass trying to get my footing I created this site and made a couple of posts. Im going to put in the effort to make this thing succeed, and hopefully find the formula to write some other, more life inspired blogs. I believe that one of the most valuable skillsets to develop is the ability continue to learn new skills, and it’s something that always presents a challenge, so I will continue to learn this and improve on it over the next few months.

Oh, and one more thing:

I haven’t decided whether or not I want to keep this anonymous or share my identity yet. I don’t have good reasons for one or the other yet, but as I keep posting I think the answer will present itself.
